Joel and Ellie on the road

The Last Of Us Episode 2 Review

With the release of HBO’s The Last Of Us Episode 2, we look to review the action-packed episode. The episode starts with Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey) waking up from a night’s rest. She looks up to see Joel and Tess staring at her as they wait for Ellie to turn any second. To their surprise, Ellie does not turn into one of the cannibalistic monsters. Tess (Anna Torv), decides that the job is worth the risk and says that they will get Ellie to the Fireflies.

The Last Of Us Episode 2 also gives a fresh take on the Cordyceps Infection. The writers explain how in the show the Cordyceps work more like a hive mind. Although the explanation is not essential to Joel and Ellie’s journey, it shows how much Neil Druckmann wants to explain his world-building past the game, reports IGN.

The Beauty Of The Last Of Us

The camera shots in this episode were simply stunning. Getting to see nature retaking a destroyed downtown Boston gave the episode the needed feeling of eariness. Not knowing what dangers could be around every corner makes the viewer really feel the suspense.

Even if you have played the game, The Last Of Us Episode 2 keeps you on the edge of your seat. We finally get a close-up look at the infected in the episode. Not just any infected, but arguably the most iconic type in the franchise. As the group makes their way through a museum they are greeted with a very familiar sound. As the figure gets closer fans of the game see what they have been waiting for since the show was announced. We finally got to see a Clicker.

As the trio tries desperately to stay quiet the blind infected hear Ellie’s breathing as they scream at the survivors and go into a frenzy. Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) quickly jumps into action as he puts a few rounds into the Clicker. In the fight, Tess gets separated from the group where she will, unfortunately, get bit by an infected. The scene of Joel and Ellie fighting for their lives is a glimpse of what is to come in the rest of the series.

Disaster Strikes The Group

After barely making it to the capitol building, the group realizes that all the Fireflies inside are dead. Some had gotten infected as the rest fell to infighting. This is where Tess reveals that this is her last stop as she shows Joel her bite wound. She then points to Ellie’s scar telling Joel that her immunity is real. A half-dead infected then leaps to Ellie as Joel shoots it twice.

The hand of the dead infected hits a patch of cordyceps as it alerts 10s of infected around the area. Tess dumps gasoline all over the ground and tells Joel to take Ellie and run. Joel honors her last request and as Joel and Ellie escape the capitol Building explodes. Tess goes out on her own terms saving the people she cares about.
