“The Office” is one of the most beloved TV shows of all time. However, some fans are torn about the news of a spin-off reboot series. The show won’t be a remake, or even be set at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. However, at least one of the show’s original characters will be back for the new series. Fans can’t wait to see how this all plays out, as Oscar Nunez will return to reprise his character, Oscar Martinez.
The new spin-off set in “The Office” universe will be set in the Midwest at a dying newspaper office. Actors Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key. Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts are all said to be taking part in these series. Now, we know that Oscar will also be back in some sort of capacity, via Deadline.
The Office Reboot Welcomes Original Character Back For Spin-Off
When fans last saw Oscar, he was still working as an accountant at Dunder Mifflin. However, he was also running a campaign to become a state senator. By the end of the series, Oscar had become best friends with Angela. The two even briefly lived together after Oscar had an affair with her husband and the two divorced, leaving Angela with a child and a low income. During that time, they became very close. When Angela married Dwight, Oscar was front and center with the couple’s son, Phillip.
While it will be great to see Oscar again, and maybe get an update on our other favorite Dunder Mifflin employees through him, it’s not likely that many other original characters will return for the series. Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott on the show, already stated that he had no interest in returning. However, Brian Baumgartner did say that it might be fun to reprise the role of Kevin Malone one more time, if the storyline called for it.
“The Office” reboot is currently being called “The Paper.” It’s set to stream on Peacock, and fans will certainly be interested to see how it stacks up in compression to the original.
