The Suns Withstand Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 42 Points To Take 2-0 Lead In NBA Finals

Thursday night was Game 2 of the 2021 NBA Finals as the Phoenix Suns and the Milwaukee Bucks did battle. The Suns were looking to take a 2-0 series lead and the Bucks were looking to tie the series up at one game apiece.

Phoenix put on an offensive show in Game 2, hitting 20 out of the 40 three-pointers they shot and dishing out 26 assists as a team. Even with Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo scoring 42 points and having 17 rebounds his teammates largely struggled with Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton combining for only 28 points.

Phoenix ended up taking the win with a final score of 118 to 108 and are now up 2-0 in the 2021 NBA Finals. The Suns seem to be an unstoppable force as they are just so dominant in this year’s playoffs.

According to Bleacher Report, “Phoenix has put on two offensive clinics in this series. The first one resulted in Paul, Booker and Deandre Ayton combining for 81 points in a 118-105 Game 1 win. The second one happened Thursday on a night where Phoenix destroyed Milwaukee with adept outside shooting and phenomenal teamwork. Milwaukee got off to a hot start, taking a 21-12 lead after seven minutes. However, Phoenix was able to keep pace with eight three-pointers, nearly matching an NBA Finals record for a single quarter.”

Giannis needs help from his teammates

The second quarter is where things really turned around for Phoenix and fell apart for Milwaukee. The Suns outscored the Bucks 30 to to 16 in the second quarter and ended up taking a 56 to 45 lead at the half. After halftime, the Bucks would not see another lead as the role players, as well as some of the stars, appeared to fall apart.

All in all, it was a great win for the Suns and an ugly loss for the Bucks. But Milwaukee still has a chance as the series shifts back to their home court. If Milwaukee can take the next two games, it will be a brand new series and they will have all the momentum going back to Phoenix.

In order for that to happen Giannis is going to need some help from his teammates. We will have to wait until Sunday night for Game 3 to tip-off to see if Milwaukee will make it a series or fall down 3-0 and be almost dead in the water.
