Tom T. Hall the legendary country music icon has lost his beloved wife songwriter Dixie Hall. Dixie Hall died at age 80 from a brain tumor on January 16 at her home in Nashville.
Dixie Hall was known to Tom T. Hall, family and friends as Miss Dixie. Dixie first moved to Nashville in 1961 to pursue her career in the music industry.
Dixie is best known in the music business for her penned hit songs that include Dave Dudley’s “Truck Drivin ‘ Son of a Gun”, “Troublesome Waters,” which was recorded by Johnny Cash. Dixie was also well known as a noted music journalists writing for Music City News.
Miss Dixie met her soul mate singer Tom T. Hall in 1964, the couple later married in 1968 just as Tom T. Hall’s music career and songwriting began to really take off for the country singer.It was during this time Dixie slowed down on her own songwriting to concentrate on her charity and philanthropic work.
Tom T. Hall retired from the music business back in 1990, but recently resumed his career and writing with Miss Dixie at his side. With the Hall’s exceptional songwriting abilities the couple received a distinguished achievement award from the International Bluegrass Music Association. Recently, Miranda Lambert recorded the Halls’ song “All That’s Left” for her album Platinum.
A private funeral service will be held.
