True Blood fans rejoice. We are reportedly going to be transported back into the vampire world created by author Charlaine Harris.  A reboot of the series is reportedly in the early stages of development at HBO.

According to TVLine, Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will be at the helm of the reboot. Of course, the original series creator, Alan Ball, has also jumped on board and will serve as an executive producer. Aguirre-Sacasa is also currently developing the Pretty Little Liars reboot at HBO Max. However, the network is currently refusing to comment on the news.

The series ran for seven seasons from 2008-2014 on the cable giant. The show centers around Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who finds herself with the unusual talent of reading people’s minds. She lives in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana when she meets the mysterious Bill Compton, a vampire whom she begins a romantic relationship with.

The show also starred Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman, Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse, Sam Trammel as Sam Merlotte, and more incredibly talented actors in supporting roles. True Blood immediately gained a cult following of people who loved the book series, as well as others jumping onto the vampire craze of the late 2000’s.

Warning: ‘True Blood’ spoilers below

However, fans hoping that the show will continue on where the original  left off will likely be disappointed. Viewers will remember that things didn’t end up happy for all of the characters. Sookie was forced to stake Bill through the heart after he was infected with the deadly Hep-V virus in the series finale.

Not much is currently known about the reboot, and there are a number of directions that a new show could take. The series could follow Sookie or any of the remaining characters. However, it will more than likely focus on new characters and stories within the universe.

There’s a chance that if the show does come to fruition that there will be some brand new vampires, fairies, shape shifters. The setting may also change. Although the book series and original show took place in Louisiana, there could be more stories to tell. It could even take us to other parts of the country or world.

Fans react to the big news

Hardcore fans are excited about the news of a reboot. Many of them immediately took to social media to share their thoughts.

Talks of a reboot of #trueblood, creates high hope of seeing the wonderful @carriepreston bringing #arlene back,” one person tweeted.

If we really do more #TrueBlood, I want to see it set in the same universe, but a different town, a different history, a different vibe. Like, set it in the Pacific Northwest or something,” another wrote.

HBO has yet to confirm the True Blood reboot news
