After a very forgettable rookie year for Cleveland Browns WR Anthony Schwartz due to injury, the young prospect is having what could be an even worse second year. With Schwartz struggling all of training camp and preseason Browns fans and some media outlets are calling for the Cleveland Browns to cut the WR as he could be a liability on the field.
Schwartz has struggled with drops this preseason, it has gotten so bad that against the Chicago Bears Schwartz was booed off the field. One person who has always stood up for Schwartz is Cleveland Browns Head Coach Kevin Stefanski who has continued to praise Schwartz’s work ethic and thick skin.
Anthony Schwartz is listed at 6 feet tall and is running a 4.27 40-yard dash. This is considered slow for him as he can really burn down the field. Ever since Andrew Berry became the Cleveland Browns General Manager he has said they want to get faster across the board. Schwartz has the speed they want with some solid size at 6-foot.
What is Schwartz’s ceiling?
If the Cleveland Browns can keep working with the young WR we believe that he could be shaped into a very dangerous offensive weapon for the Cleveland browns.
Anthony Schwartz did pretty much nothing with the ball in his hands last season, but he is still someone the defense has to account for due to his speed. With Schwartz being as fast as he is, it helps create space for other possible targets to move the ball down the field. Teams are not going to simply stop covering Schwartz every play assuming he is just going to drop the ball every time.
Keeping Anthony Schwartz around with Jacoby Brissett starting at Quarterback could be a great move by the Cleveland Browns as it creates space for the QB. The Browns have a very young receiver core outside Amari Cooper they have Donovan Peoples-Jones, David Bell, Anthony Schwartz, Michael Woods, and Demetric Felton.

All these players are looking to prove that they need to be around next season when Deshaun Watson will play the entire season.
Even if Anthony Schwartz is a bust again this year, what do the Cleveland Browns have to lose? They already don’t have their starting Quarterback until week 13 and they would be losing a receiver that is probably not going to be on the team in 2023.
Anthony Schwartz’s upside is great and the risk of keeping him on the 2022 roster is pretty low. Will Schwartz actually turn things around this year? Only time will tell as NFL Football has officially started.
