Yellowstone has delivered plenty of shocking moments over the years, and Season 5 is no different. The series has already created some big storylines such as Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) looking to get revenge on John Dutton (Kevin Costner). Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) finding out about Jamie’s son was also a huge moment. However, the most heartbreaking moment of the season revolved around Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille).

During the Yellowstone Season 5 premiere, Monica is seen heavily pregnant and going into labor as her husband, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) is busy at work. Monica calls Kayce to give him the news. She decides to drive herself to the hospital and have Kayce meet her there. On the way to the hospital, Monica is in severe pain. Sadly, she gets into a car accident with her son Tate in the car. Monica and Tate were both injured in the crash. Heartbreakingly, Monica gives birth to her youngest son, who was revealed to have died shortly after.

Will Monica Dutton die in Yellowstone Season 5?

Yellowstone handled the baby’s death by revealing Monica and Kayce’s deep sorrow. The couple announced that they named their son John after Kayce’s father. They later buried the newborn in the Dutton family cemetery at the ranch.

Many fans desperately want to see Monica and Kayce have a happy ending and even welcome more children. However, that might not be in the cards for the couple. During Yellowstone Season 4, Kayce saw a vision pertaining to the end of his marriage. Although he never told Monica what that vision was, he promised not to let it happen.

Now that Monica’s role in Season 5 has been a bit understated, fans are worried about the character’s fate. Yellowstone has killed off members of the Dutton family in the past. Fans may remember that John’s oldest son Lee was tragically killed in Season 1.

What are Yellowstone fans saying about Monica’s fate?

“She doesn’t always make the best decisions but her and Kayce are so cute together and I love their story I don’t want her to die or leave him / the show,” one fan tweeted of Monica’s character. “I kinda think Taylor Sheridan doesn’t know how to write a storyline for Monica-just wife, mother and teacher. I’ll be shocked if she doesn’t die in season five,” another viewer commented.

Meanwhile, last year, TVLine predicted that Monica may be a character that could die before or during Season 5 of the show. Yellowstone fans tend to be conflicted about Monica, but only time will tell if she’ll make it through Season 5.
