“Yellowstone” fans have been waiting for any news about the second part of Season 5. The show has become a hot topic of conversation as controversy has surrounded actor Kevin Costner’s role as John Dutton. Earlier this year, it was reported that Costner was causing issues with production. Eventually, things got so bad that creator Taylor Sheridan announced the show had officially been canceled. The series is set to return for the final episodes at some point, and fans were devastated to hear the news. However, things went from bad to worse when Costner recently revealed John Dutton’s fate.
According to Us Weekly, Costner recently spoke out about his involvement with the final episodes of “Yellowstone.” The iconic actor admitted that he no longer has any involvement with the beloved series and that he “concluded his work” with the series. This hints that John Dutton’s story is officially over on the series. It doesn’t seem likely that Costner will return to wrap up his character’s storyline. Sadly, this is going to leave John Dutton with a heartbreaking end anyway they spin it.
Kevin Costner reportedly not returning for the final episodes of Yellowstone
So, what does this mean for the show? The first part of “Yellowstone” Season 5 ended with Beth and John deciding that Jamie needed to die. Meanwhile, Jamie also came to the conclusion that Beth and/or John also needed to be taken care of. With Costner reportedly walking away from the show before the series finale, it seems that John Dutton’s fate has been sealed and he will likely be killed off.
This could lead to a time jump and also leaves so many questions that need to be answered in the finale episodes. What will happen to the ranch, and who will take charge? Kayce never seemed to want to lead the charge. Of course, Rip would be the perfect candidate, but he’s not a Dutton by blood.
Fans would likely still watch the show without John Dutton
Meanwhile, if Jamie is responsible for John’s death, that will cause even more tension and hatred between him and Beth. The two siblings would likely have to have it out one final time before the finale.
Kevin Costner’s reluctance to return to “Yellowstone” also begs the question of why the show must be canceled. Perhaps Sheridan believes the series can’t continue without John Dutton. However, the rest of the cast seems capable enough to take the reigns without Costner on board. It seems the show could have continued past Season 5. However, so much still seems up in the air.
