Yellowstone fans know that the show’s universe is massive. There are so many stories to tell surrounding the Dutton family, and it looks like a new one is in the works. A spin-off all about Luke Grimes’ character, Kayce Dutton, is reportedly in the works. The show would air on CBS, and be more mainstream that way than its predecessors. However, there is one catch. Fans hoping to see a glimpse into the future of Kayce’s life with Monica and their son, Tate, will be disappointed.
According to Deadline, the new “Yellowstone” spin-off will be all about Kayce Dutton. However, not that Kayce that fans have grown to know and love. Instead, the show may be a prequel of sorts, all about Kayce’s time as a former Navy SEAL.
At the end of the series, fans saw Kayce tap into his Navy training and revert back to some of his old ways. Either a prequel, or a spin on his new life will likely be seen. It could be an interesting story, and take the franchise in a much different direction.
Yellowstone Spin-Off About Kayce Dutton Eyed At CBS

The show isn’t involved with MTV Entertainment Studios like the original series. Instead, it would be produced by CBS and reportedly has showrunner Spencer Hudnut from “SEAL Team” at the helm. The idea has allegedly been in the works for more than a year, and “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan has seemingly given his blessing.
In addition to working on a Kayce Dutton spin-off, the “Yellowstone” universe will also expand with a show about Kayce’s sister, Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly), and her husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser). That project was announced in late 2024.
It’s currently unclear if the spin-off is officially happening. However, fans of “Yellowstone” would likely watch anything that involves the beloved Dutton characters, especially fan favorite Kayce. With this possible new show, as well as Beth and Rip’s spin-off, it seems that fans won’t even have the chance to miss the current-day Duttons.
